Eurymachia

The Museum’s first ever exhibit is now open!

Eurymachia is the temporary nickname of a new dig site recently discovered on an island off the South-East of the Greek mainland. It has been dated back to the end of the Bronze Age, but not much more is known about it than that.

Dr Adelaide Simons, Naarm/Melbourne-based archaeologist and one of the first people to arrive at the dig site, has now partnered with the Museum of Lost Cities to bring the dig site to us.

However, the Museum is dedicated to exploring the gaps in historical records, and what better way than to invite people to try and fill them?

The dig site is now mostly excavated, but many of the artefacts still have not been fully assessed or studied. So, with the help of Dr Simons and some wonderful artists, the Museum of Lost Cities is proud to present a virtual exhibit, and also a game.

Come explore the Museum. Look through the artefacts, read what we know so far. And then come to our Discord or social media (links in the sidebar) and tell us what you think! Do your own research, pool your resources, and maybe we can piece together some of the stories behind these pieces of history.

Dr Simons will be visiting our Discord as often as she can, keeping us updated on any dating or analysis that has been done on the artefacts we present at the Museum. She believes that the artefacts found at Eurymachia might help prove her theory that trade collapse occurred before major raiding started, and was the primary factor in the collapse of civilisations in the Aegean at the end of the Bronze Age. Do these artefacts support her? Or do they tell a different story…?

After all, in the words of Dr Simons, “…we really could be onto some solid proof for what happened to at least one of the Bronze Age civilisations. And that? It’s hard to overstate how huge that is.”

Remember to check back with the Museum regularly! It’s a work in progress in many ways, so check back for new information, new artefacts, and new input form Dr Simons herself.

We hope to see you there!
